Home Sounds

Home Sounds concerns our experience of home - where our heart and spirit resonate because they belong. Home Sounds offers visitors an experience in which to rest and listen with familiar objects – a chair, a bed and a sound cart. These object were created by sculptor and woodworker Celia Greiner. Most recently, it also includes a platform that holds the objects and is also a resonating instrument. This most recent development was made possible by a DCASE grant.

Sound Art Chair

Development of the Sound Art Chair was generously supported by a 2018 DCASE grant. The visitor sits in a gentle rocking chair and views a painting by Anna Kunz while listening to my composition Curved Silence performed by Lakeshore Rush Ensemble.

Exhale

Exhale is a sound bed that holds up to three people. Using four transducers beneath the wood - sounds resonate through the wood and through visitors’ bodies. Most recently Exhale was made interactive - it can be played like a drum with the sound resonating throughout the suite of instruments.

Sound Cart

The Sound Cart holds the tops of three brass horns – each resonates as does the top of the cart that holds them. Sound and the feel of sound is made possible using tiny transducers within the horns – larger transducers beneath the wood.
