How coaching works…

Depending on the needs and wishes of the client, we may use a strengths-based approach, which builds on the research from the University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology department. This work typically includes an *assessment that clients complete before a coaching session. The assessment identifies a client’s top strengths, also referred to as virtues. According to this research, one’s greatest fulfillment comes when using one’s top two strengths.

Sometimes clients are aware of their strengths, but need the opportunity to explore how to use them more fully. In this case, we explore how to do this – perhaps also, what keeps them from moving forward once the desired goal is clear.

At other times, clients need someone to help them respond to a difficult work relationship – or work dynamic. They may have the job or career they always wanted, but have run into unexpected problems.

For clients in the creative fields, there can be similar problems, but also the stress and anxiety of producing art and/or performing. Developing practices such as meditation and journaling, can often help identify parts of oneself that need more compassion and support.

These are just a few of many proven evidence-based approaches that may be used within a coaching session depending on the needs of the client.
